Doppler-device Not known Quantification Cerebral microemboli during carotid artery endarterectomy and angioplasty with stenting Right to left shunt in cryptogenic stroke: TCD vs. TEE Author

چکیده
Patent foramen ovale is frequently associated with embolic cerebrovascular accidents. The diagnosis of patent foramen ovale (PFO) is easier since the advent of transesophageal echocardiography but is invasive and does not allow to detect extracardiac RLS. Contrast transcranial Doppler ultrasound enables the detection of the passage of a contrast material injected into a peripheral vein to the cerebral circulation across an orifice which is most often a patent foramen ovale. It is subject to recent research to investigate the value of TCD in RLS diagnosis in contrast to other techniques. There is controversity about the optimal patient position for the detection of right-to-left shunt (RLS).

ANGIOPLASTY AND STENTING OF CAROTID ARTERY STENOSIS WITH EMBOLIC PROTECTION DEVICES
Background: Carotid artery stenting (CAS) has recently been recommended as an alternative to carotid endarterectomy (CEA) by some clinicians. Objective: This study was designed to evaluate the success rate and in-hospital and 30-day adverse events in our first experiences in Iran for CAS with protection devices, to document our results and guide further use of CAS. Methods: From December 2...
متن کاملContrast transcranial Doppler ultrasound in the detection of right-to-left shunts. Reproducibility, comparison of 2 agents, and distribution of microemboli.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Cardiac right-to-left shunts can be identified by transcranial Doppler ultrasound (TCD) with the use of different contrast agents and by transesophageal echocardiography (TEE). Systematic data are available on neither the reproducibility of contrast TCD, the comparison of different contrast agents, nor the comparison of simultaneous bilateral to unilateral recordings. Fur...
متن کاملCerebral microemboli and brain injury during carotid artery endarterectomy and stenting.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Cerebral microembolic signals detected by transcranial Doppler are frequent during carotid angioplasty with stenting and carotid endarterectomy (CEA). Their potential harmful effects on the brain are, however, unclear. The aim of this study was to relate the frequency and type of per-procedural microembolic signals to procedure-related ipsilateral ischemic strokes and new...
متن کاملTranscranial Doppler monitoring of transcervical carotid stenting with flow reversal protection: a novel carotid revascularization technique.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Transfemoral carotid stenting, despite becoming very frequent, has some limitations such as difficult groin access in few patients, lack of distal protection during filter placement, or embolization despite protection. Transcervical stenting (TCS) is a novel technique during which a common carotid to jugular vein shunt is placed creating a protective reversal flow in the ...
متن کاملTranscranial doppler ultrasonography should it be the first choice for persistent foramen ovale screening?
BACKGROUND Persistent foramen ovale (PFO) is considered a cause of cryptogenic stroke and a risk factor for neurological events in young patients. The reference standard for identifying a PFO is contrast-enhanced transesophageal echocardiography (TEE).The goal of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of transcranial color Doppler (TCD) and its diagnostic sensitivity compared with TEE.
